The EWUM Research Group has several years of experience in research activities and in providing support to water utilities, public bodies and regulators.
The services provided include:
- Performance evaluation and efficiency analysis of utilities;
- Design and implementation of management control tools for monitoring costs and key performance indicators of services;
- Developing benchmarking models for efficiency comparison of waste water treatment plants;
- Supporting firms and authorities to catch new funds for financing water infrastructures;
- Setting tariff plans for water local authorities;
- Developing tools of regulation based on yardstick competition;
- Comparison of different regulatory models to support the choice best suited for each region or country;
- Organization of training courses on regulation and water management for national and international audience.
Recent activities:
2015-2016-2017: development of a three years international training course on European Water Utility Management, financed by the European Union;
2015: leading a strategic analysis of leachate treatment plants for Gida S.p.A., Prato – Italy;
2015: implementation of a cost accounting tool for a wastewater treatment plant in Gida S.p.A., Prato – Italy;
2015: scientific advisory for the European water authorities network of regulators (WAREG), to identify the regulatory model adopted in each country and evaluate their efficiency and effectiveness in terms of price variation, cost savings, investments realization and quality improvement;
2014-2015: evaluation of the financial sustainability of four water infrastructures to be realized through leasing in the north of Italy;
2014: development of a benchmarking tool to evaluate the efficiency of the wastewater treatment plants of Acque S.p.A., Pisa – Italy;
2013: draft of the tariff plan for a water local authority operating in the north of Italy.
